Match report: Trinity OM

It was a lovely sunny day that saw us go for the annual fixture away at Trinity Old Midwhitgiftians. A game that every year is always a great game to play against a friendly opposition and a fantastic pitch. Even has a bar as a nice bonus! Charlie won the toss and with the sun beaming down, chose to bat first and Luke and Ed went out there. The opening bowlers were some of the best you will likely find and it was soon evident that all you could do is try and stay there to see them off. To prove this off opener Kulkarni’s first 3 over he was 1-0, claiming Luke with a very good ball. Ed stayed there to see him off and really it was Ed who kept us in the game, he then looked to score with the still good first change bowlers on and together with Rajesh, got us scoring some runs and some hope that we could build a score. After some time Ed was eventually caught looking to increase the rate and then Shaun was bowled after some good perseverance and Lee was caught from a worldie of a catch. Josh then played a nice 17 before being caught. At the end, Leon and Gideon did well to score some quick runs to finish and we were eventually all out for 131. Not an ideal final score, however with bowling we had and a wicket that was doing a bit for the bowlers, we were quietly positive that if we could pick up some early wickets, you never know what can happen… After a great tea and watching a bit of the test match, it was time for us to go out and bowl. We got off to a great start with Josh picking up a wicket in his first over and together Josh and Charlie kept it tight to ensure we were in the game, with Charlie picking up 2 wickets with a bowled and a very good catch from Lee. In the meantime the number 3 batsmen Malik came in and it was obvious fairly quickly that he would look to attack as much as possible. I think to put it very kindly you could say this gentleman rode his luck a bit! I predict he may have been dropped around 10 times and there was countless others that fell just short of fielders or went just above the fielders, it was clear it was not our day and with this batsmen getting a 98 not out, the game went away from us and it was a loss to put into the book. Aaron getting another 2 wickets in the meantime. Even walking away with a loss, it was an enjoyable game with some old friends in the TOM team and was capped off enjoying a beer in the bar afterwards with members of the team and some of the opposition. The Player of the Match for this week is Ed, with some very good batting to see off the dangerous openers and then upping the scoring to keep us in the game, and some also great fielding once again, barring an uncharacteristic drop.
