Match report: Headley
Sunday brought Plastics XI to the Lakes for an Exiles home game. On a week where the forecast was terrible for Sunday all week, it was a pleasant surprise to see most of the day looking clear.
After a quick roll of the wicket from part time groundsman Aidan, Charlie won the toss and elected to bat first taking in to account the thought of the wicket getting worse as the game went on and helped along by the Ed having to leave at 5pm...
It was time for our trip to Headley that happens in July, However due to Woodmansterne cancelling the game that we had with them. Due to Heavy traffic Luke stepped in to do the toss and won the toss and elected to Bat. We started slowly and then lost a couple of early wickets which brought Rajesh and Debutant Ram helped get us back on track and playing some great attacking shots to put the pressure back onto the bowlers and with Rajesh eventually going for 45 with a questionable LBW and Ram eventually caught after making a fine 50 on his debut. There was then some nice shots from Aaron and Gideon that gave us a respectable score and meaning if we bowled and fielded well, we had a chance in the game. As we were bowled out for 178. However, it was not our day and a mixture of the bowling and fielding was not up to par and even after wickets from Gideon and Rajesh it was not enough and they reached the total in 22 overs. It was a below par performance from the exiles with Every department in the game needing to be better, however on a lovely hot summers day it was nice to have a drink in the bar from the club. The player of the match goes to Ram, who on his debut settled in perfectly with a great 50 that kept us in the game, unfortunately it was not to be. We now move on to next week where the weather alone looks to be a tough opponent!
