Match report: Bromley Town
Sunday brought Plastics XI to the Lakes for an Exiles home game. On a week where the forecast was terrible for Sunday all week, it was a pleasant surprise to see most of the day looking clear.
After a quick roll of the wicket from part time groundsman Aidan, Charlie won the toss and elected to bat first taking in to account the thought of the wicket getting worse as the game went on and helped along by the Ed having to leave at 5pm...
It was a first away game against Bromley Town and as we all got to the ground the first thought was how lovely the ground was. Picturesque and the wicket was a thing of Beauty. Charlie won the toss and elected to Bat. After a short delay due to a local fire in some flats, we got the game under a way. The exiles lost some quick early wickets as it was clear the Bromley opening bowlers were very good and with some great bowling, we struggled to get going and scoring some runs. Very soon we was 20-3 after 10 overs and things were not looking good. However, We fought back with Lee and Paul starting to score quickly to get us into a better position. The built brilliantly until the partnership was broken when Paul was given out LBW for a well made 33. Josh was then gone after making some quick runs and this brought Charlie to the crease. Not long after Lee was out, Edging behind some good bowling. Once again, there was a feeling that it could be problems with just bowlers left, however there was another good recovery with Charlie sticking at it and getting the runs ticked off, eventually bowled for a very slow but important 29. Leon then had a quick cameo with a classic Leon sweep shot and then mistimed one and bringing our total to 165 all out. Not the greatest score with hopes of 200 but considering how we had been at some points, it was a strong recovery. It was our turn to bowl and defend the total and josh started well moving the ball well and eventually got his reward with the wicket of the dangerous opener and getting his first catch for the club! With good bowling from the openers, Charlie and Paul came on to bowl and between the 2 Arthur’s, they done well to keep it tight and at drinks we were in a position where it would be a close game if we could pick up some wickets. Overall it was not to be and Bromley won the game with a couple of overs to spare with Rajesh, Vamshi and Josh picking up the wickets for a day. However an enjoyable day against a new opposition, at a lovely ground with a close game and a nice beer to top it off! Player of the Match goes to Paul who made an important 33 to keep us in the game, bowled very well helping to keep the run rate down and also taking a catch!
