Match report: Trinity Oxley

It was time for our last away game of the season, travelling to Trinity Oxley. On a very hot day, it was very welcome news that when Trinity won the toss and elected to bowl first. We opened the batting with Josh Pizey and Gideon getting us off to a good start. Paul came in at three and started to score to put us at a good position at drinks. While we started to lose wickets, Paul was staying there and eventually made another 50 to add to his season runs. Paul was then joined by Lee and together they had a great partnership to get us to a good position. Paul eventually being run out. With the Exiles on a competitive score, Lee was joined by Charlie with three overs to go. Lee finished on a fine 48, bring the exiles to 190. Charlie and Leon opened the bowling and after two overs the exiles had Trinity Oxley 0-2 and we were off to a great start. The opening spell got us into the game and with good bowling from Aaron and Gideon meant that the game was always competitive. As the ga...

Match report: SW United

It was another home game, this time we welcomed SW United to the lakes, where there was one boundary you could defend for 6, the other boundary was a massive 6. Classic Sunday Cricket! The Exiles batted first and there was a few quick wickets, while at the other end, Paul stuck in and a mixture of some good shots and some impressive drops, meant he stayed in and made some vital runs. He was then joined at the crease by Luke who was due a big score and did not disappoint, playing beautifully and with some lovely shots, moving to his second 50 of the year! Some contributions by Josh Pizey,Charlie, and a fine innings late by Leon meant that we reached he total score of 179. While this was not an ideal score, it gave the bowlers a chance. We started our innings with the two Joshes getting us off to a good start bowling very tightly and with Josh Pizey picking up two fine wickets. Another day, it could have been Josh Smith getting multiple wickets. After the two Joshes it was tim...

Match report: Hobgoblin Nomads

So it was the turn of another new team as we travelled to Sydenham to play Hobgoblin Nomads, a team that had apparently played us 10 years previous, yet no one could remember! We arrived and the first look at the wickets was something unique in this country, with it looking more like a test match in the UAE! Charlie won the toss and with it being 30 degrees + it was his idea to bat first. Luke and Marcel opened the batting and after playing a lovely shot down the ground for 4, Luke was caught playing the same shot. After a couple of further wickets, the was a bit of a resurgence from Lee, we started to score more freely. However, as we batted the wicket started to play against us, with a spinner from one end regularly finding a spot when the ball would stay on the floor and not bounce. With that bowler ending with figures of 6-19. Not bad for a Sunday! After much of the same, wickets where people were getting out by the pitch, we finished our innings on a low score of 84. We then went...

Match report: Headley (H)

Sunday brought Plastics XI to the Lakes for an Exiles home game. On a week where the forecast was terrible for Sunday all week, it was a pleasant surprise to see most of the day looking clear.  After a quick roll of the wicket from part time groundsman Aidan, Charlie won the toss and elected to bat first taking in to account the thought of the wicket getting worse as the game went on and helped along by the Ed having to leave at 5pm... It was only 2 weeks after out last trip to Headley, yet here we were, making the trek all over again. It was a lovely sunny day and we looked for a win against a team we had recently lost to. After an agreement on which would be used, Charlie won the toss and elected to field. Unfortunately that was as good as it got for the exiles …. Leon and Aidan opened the bowling and while they started tidily, it was very obvious, very quickly that it was not the best wicket for Pace and Aaron was brought on and very quickly started to get rewards on an incredi...

It was time for our trip to Headley that happens in July, However due to Woodmansterne cancelling the game that we had with them. Due to Heavy traffic Luke stepped in to do the toss and won the toss and elected to Bat. We started slowly and then lost a couple of early wickets which brought Rajesh and Debutant Ram helped get us back on track and playing some great attacking shots to put the pressure back onto the bowlers and with Rajesh eventually going for 45 with a questionable LBW and Ram eventually caught after making a fine 50 on his debut. Ther...

With Charlie out for this week, Luke was captain for the game and as he walked out for the toss there was an Exiles first. With the Opposition Captain Jack Cooper also being our newly crowned Player of the Year for 2021! Sunday cricket at its finest! Luke won the toss and elected to Bat and opened with Paul and got of to a good start until Luke got a ball that didn’t want to bounce and was unlucky...

Match report: Bromley Town

Sunday brought Plastics XI to the Lakes for an Exiles home game. On a week where the forecast was terrible for Sunday all week, it was a pleasant surprise to see most of the day looking clear.  After a quick roll of the wicket from part time groundsman Aidan, Charlie won the toss and elected to bat first taking in to account the thought of the wicket getting worse as the game went on and helped along by the Ed having to leave at 5pm... It was a first away game against Bromley Town and as we all got to the ground the first thought was how lovely the ground was. Picturesque and the wicket was a thing of Beauty. Charlie won the toss and elected to Bat. After a short delay due to a local fire in some flats, we got the game under a way. The exiles lost some quick early wickets as it was clear the Bromley opening bowlers were very good and with some great bowling, we struggled to get going and scoring some runs. Very soon we was 20-3 after 10 overs and things were not looking good. Howe...

Match report: Club match

On a week where the forecast was terrible for Sunday all week, it was a pleasant surprise to see most of the day looking clear.  After a quick roll of the wicket from part time groundsman Aidan, Charlie won the toss and elected to bat first taking in to account the thought of the wicket getting worse as the game went on and helped along by the Ed having to leave at 5pm... It was time for the day of the Club Match, a club tradition that in recent years has been a massive success, with the colts/parents game being before the hard ball game between first team players. The colts match was first and with help from Mark, Gideon and Aaron, it was great to see some of the cricket on show from the next generation! Stanley being the star of the game scoring 70! It will be great to see how they all progress in the future. It was a great turn out from many of the colts to come down and get some parents playing too. The second ha...

It was the annual home game against Trinity Oxley and after brief discussions it was decided that due to the status of the pitch that the game would be played on the artificial pitch. Trinity won the toss and elected to put us into bat. Against some good opening bowling the exiles started on a tough wicket to bat on and lost some wickets quickly. It was becoming harder and harder to bat and eventually we were bowled out for 97. With some stand out performances from Gideon and Leon down the order scoring some good runs. Due to us getting out quickly ...

Match report: Trinity OM

It was a lovely sunny day that saw us go for the annual fixture away at Trinity Old Midwhitgiftians. A game that every year is always a great game to play against a friendly opposition and a fantastic pitch. Even has a bar as a nice bonus! Charlie won the toss and with the sun beaming down, chose to bat first and Luke and Ed went out there. The opening bowlers were some of the best you will likely find and it was soon evident that all you could do is try and stay there to see them off. To prove this off opener Kulkarni’s first 3 over he was 1-0, claiming Luke with a very good ball. Ed stayed there to see him off and really it was Ed who kept us in the game, he then looked to score with the still good first change bowlers on and together with Rajesh, got us scoring some runs and some hope that we could build a score. After some time Ed was eventually caught looking to increase the rate and then Shaun was bowled after some good perseverance and Lee was caught from a worldie of a catch. ...
