Match report: vs Brixton Barbarians

It was the turn of the Brixton Barbarians and although we have played them many times, this is the 2nd time we have played at their ground. The ground did not disappoint on a lovely sunny day perfect for cricket with an amazing wicket.

We won the toss and Charlie chose to bat first, not a surprising decision as with the sun out and a great wicket it would have been madness to do anything else. Paul and Jez started the innings and got us off to a good start, Jez putting the pressure back on the bowlers with some attacking shots and Paul also hitting some nice boundaries.

Just as it looked they had seen off the tricky opening bowler, Paul chipped one straight up in the air to the keeper. Jez, however, continued and was then joined by Rajesh. They both put on a great display with Jez reaching his first 50 of the season and then later on in the innings Rajesh also making his. In the end as they opened up to get some runs and with Jez finishing of 67 and Rajesh finishing on 68, it brought an end to two fine innings and also a great partnership.

As we looked to score some late runs Aaron hit a quick 30 and Aidan hit a fine 6. After a break for tea, a few beers and a stressful watch of the football, it was our turn to field. We started with Aidan opening the bowling and it could not have started better when the first ball of the innings was nicked by the batsmen and was caught by Paul behind the stumps.

The good opening bowling continued as Aidan picked up another two wickets to finish his spell with 3-13 and Charlie picked up a couple to finish on 2-25. Liv then came on to bowl for her first spell for the Exiles and was involved instantly picking up her first wickets for the club with catches for both Charlie and Lee.

To finish the innings and secure the win Aaron picked up one wicket with Leon and Gideon also picking up a wicket. Overall it was a great Team performance with everyone contributing, at a lovely ground with a great day and great weather. The club buying everyone a drink in the bar where we could celebrate a win as a team was very appreciated by everyone!

The player of the match was Jez. To start as opening batsmen and to put us in a great position in the game with a great knock, seeing off some tricky bowlers and in not the easiest weather to be batting for a long time. However, special mentions for Rajesh who also had a superb knock, hitting some incredible sixes, Aidan for one of the best opening bowler spells you could expect to see, Liv for getting her first wickets for the club and another not out.

Next week we are back at the Lakes, to face a new team and hopefully continue the winning streak.
